Chocoquí is an artisanal chocolate company based in San Francisco’s Outer Richmond district. We produce small-batch single-origin dark chocolate bars from cocoa beans sourced from the renowned farm Hacienda Jeanmarie Chocolat in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. What started out as a hobby has turned into a passion, and we pour our love of chocolate making into each of our bars. We operate under a cottage food permit in San Francisco, and we hope to share with our community the unique flavors that Puerto Rican chocolate has to offer. We hope you enjoy our bars as much as we do crafting them.

What does Chocoquí mean?

Chocoquí is a portmanteau from the words chocolate and coquí. While the chocolate part is pretty self-explanatory, a coquí is a small frog native to Puerto Rico. It is a beloved symbol that practically all Puerto Ricans know and love. The coquí calls at nighttime are a beautiful symphony that most of us who no longer live in Puerto Rico dearly miss. The Taíno, the native inhabitants of Puerto Rico, had a symbol for the coquí that is ubiquitous in Puerto Rican culture, and which we use in our Chocoquí logo to remind us of home.
